Here are my recommendations for you.
1. Use the extract tool to get a nice edge on the front of the hood. Select the faces on edge of the hood, then use the extract surface tool to create a nice edge. Remember not to smooth too much so that your polygon count isn't too high, but an extracted surface, once smoothed is a really nice finishing touch.
2. Once you create your hood, take it into the Poser cloth room, put a primitive ball on the model's head and collide the hood with the ball and the model. Then export the OBJ back to your modeler. You get some really nice folds, and creating morphs for hair under the hood become infinitely easier.
Cool - thanks Glitterati
I will try exactly that then! Was wondering if it'd be appropriate to try sim'ing it in the cloth room...
...um... another newbie question arises out of that... should I do the cloth room sim first, then extract the edge perhaps? Or should the extracted edge sim okay?
Apologies for going somewhat OT in this thread. Maybe I should start a new project / sketchbook type thread for this now?
Do you edges before simming....just be careful when extracting not to cut the edge of the hood. (If you extract below the current surface, you will cut the edge rather than adding to the surface.) I would suggest you use a "test object" to learn how to use the extract tool. (Geek at Play has some great Hexagon tutorials)
Then, running the sim will almost equate to a smooth operation. You probably want to smooth first, though, because you need a nice poly count to get a good sim.
