While you can't modify them actively, I have great luck exporting from DAZ Studio. I export as OBJs. Then I modify as necessary in Vue and save as VOBs. 

Crashing and issues like that are different. Being able to build and render a scene is, obviously, of the utmost importance. But if one wants to use a program, one often needs to make exceptions.
