Quote - Totally OT or perhaps not, I've noticed that many seem to expouse the superiority or advantages of the latest and greatest and in a few years will be like "oh yes, well that's obviously crap compared to the (latest flavor)" in regard to same. I've seen it so many times while perusing older threads that it's almost comical. It must be medium induced tunnel vision, or symptomatic of the practicality problems of this medium in general.
Software snobbery and envy is another trifle...
I've noticed the exact opposite: a vocal group of people who are very quick to point out all of the disadvantages of "the newest thing" whilst jumping at the chance to identify themselves as diehard advocates of older tech. This thread is an excellent example. (I'm guilty myself whenever engaging in discussions about mobile devices or social media, the appeal of of which I find hard to understand.)
Nothing wrong with it really. It's human nature to seek out a group of likeminded folk to hang out with, even if the reasons for agreement are based on more or less random factors. Not much different from picking a sports team to support and wearing its colors in public, really.
