xpdev knows what he must do. earth's sun and poser point-source ray-traced directional lights produce harsh direct shadow edges with some blurring that is a function of the distance from the shadow-casting edge to the shadowed surface, whilst a large diffuse-emitting surface will produce very soft shadows in poser.
