Well, all profit comes at the expense of buyers, doesn't it?
No company lasts very long if their business model is based on screwing over the customers. I doubt very much that this is a part of it here.
It would be nice, though, if release dates were included as part of the product info. But I also understand those merchants who worry that, with a date tag, their "old" products might not sell, even though they are still perfectly good.
