After something manual? Not necessarily, it's more a matter of being able to find things, having one's own directory is good, yes, but being able to find all the associated things with a piece of clothing, character, prop or set is the point: rather than spending time going "where the heck are the mats for this?" and fiddling around for five minutes, I would like to concentrate on the actual creative side, you know - what we are here for. 

Anyhoo from what you've said so far it is probably the best/only option.
