Subject: Image removed because it had my URL on it?

Dragontales ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2012 at 3:56 PM · edited Mon, 11 November 2024 at 10:20 PM

Has this site really resorted to pulling down images that have the artists URL on them?  I thought this was a community where people are hoping to gain exposure to other artists and creative minds.  I wasn't "selling" anything.  I simply had my logo and website URL on it.  I don't sell anything on my website other than my services as a photographer.  I used to put my URL when I made poser images too.

Renderosity doesn't allow offsite advertising. If you had a link embedded in your image, this is most likely the reason for it to be pulled. You should have gotten an explanation from the staff member who is dealing with this.

Please let me know if you have not and I will contact them on your behalf.

Thanks!

I did a search for link, advert, url, and logo in the TOS and I can't see anything about off-site advertising behind forbidden? The nearest thing I can see is this:

Site Areas (Galleries, Forums, Homepages, Blogs, etc):

Commercial images are welcome in the galleries with following restrictions: 1. Posting of commercial images/links is limited to active vendors and products in the Renderosity Marketplace. 2: Commercial language is limited to text in the Notes area and may not appear on the actual image.

Maybe you fell foul of that? Many people have offsite links in their signatures - I'd always assumed that was okay and in accordance with the TOS?*

The 3Dcheapskate* occasionally posts sensible stuff. Usually by accident.
And it usually uses Poser 11, with units set to inches. Except when it's using Poser 6 or PP2014, or when its units are set to PNU.

*also available in ShareCG, DAZ, and HiveWire3D flavours (the DeviantArt and CGBytes flavour have been discontinued).

That is the offsite advertising clause that you quoted, and only Renderosity vendors are allowed to advertise onsite, and only their own products found on Renderosity.

As far as signatures go, we do not monitor those as we do galleries etc, however if they are found and are advertising offsite stores, commercial items, commercial services etc they will be removed.

Hope this helps clarify

Thanks,

I don't visit here often anymore, but this caught my eye.. No URL on an image ? Have you folks gotten that paranoid?

I can understand not allow competative items..I can understand not allowing "non art" items..

But a URL to a Photographers website? and they aren't even selling prints?

BUT, you won't police signatures? You better check mine then..and while your at it..check the sponor link under my images..which is also to my website..

Bruce, we dont allow links embedded in images...links in the description or signatures to non commercial websites are allowed..such as personal galleries etc.

And you already know about signature patrol..we don't actively monitor them, but if we come across commercial links in signatures during our normal forays around the forums, we will remove them.

So how does my website count as a "commercial" website when I don't sell a damn thing on it?  Certainly nothing that competes with ANYTHING in your store or your vendors.

A URL to a website is a standard that every place uses.  I refuse to use this site anymore unless I can keep it on the image.  If someone copies an image from my gallery and posts it elsewhere, I'd like viewers to be able to track the work back to me.

I am cinfused by the term "link embedded in images" .   I was not aware that you could embed a link in a gallery image.

Do you mean if I have a pic that has a small sign in the corner with  www.myspecialsite.com in the picture, not a clickable link, that it is not permitted ?

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Tue, 18 December 2012 at 12:51 AM

mark, it appears they refer to websites with services/merchandise on offer, e.g. dragon.   this may indicate they desire prior contact with those trying to advertise on their website, prior to advertising on their site.

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 18 December 2012 at 1:23 PM

@Dragon: We arent saying you cannot 'sign' your images as in watermarking etc.., however links in the image itself are not allowed..and if you want to post a link to your site, that is non commercial, such as to a personal gallery etc.. you may do so in the image description. This may or may not change in the future, but for now that is the way it is.

Without seeing the website, I cannot tell you if it would be considered a commercial website or not by Rendo standards...however if the link was in your image, and Im assuming it was..that is why it was removed.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding your image removal, please send an email to admin@renderosity.com and I'll help clarify as best I can.

Thanks
