It must be a bit more elaborate than that. Smith Micro bought the entire US branch of eFrontier, while eFrontier kept the Asian branch. Poser is big in Japan while SM is advertising wildly on Manga Studio and alike, and note that SM issued Miki4 recently.

So I guess the relationship between SM and eF is a bit more than just owning by one and distributing by the other.
