Isn't this workflow just as easy:
Create three primitive planes and place as required respecting normal orientation.
Export the planes to an OBJ (don't write surfaces but write normals and UV) which will basically weld them together into 1 object.
3.Re-import that OBJ you will have 1 object with 1 material which can be converted to light.
