I just learned that Poser guru, PhilC has a plugin for Poser that is a starting point for these kinds of parametric ideas. It's much simpler than say Grasshopper, and isn't meant for modeling complete complex structures, but it's a python plugin that explores mathematical shapes that would be very difficult to model by hand, and then turns them into props for you. This could be used, for example, to create some cool, contemporary jewelry for your characters or whatever. The principal behind this plugin, which is to explore new and interesting shapes in 3D, is the building block to parametric and generative design that I've been talking about in this thread..
