Yeah, I made the same mistake when i first tried Hexagon back in Aug.  I was going high poly too soon and just made things difficult for my self.

 

You may want to keep things more seperate and combine them later.  Keep the hood and doors seperate from the body.  That way also if you want to rig them for movement you can.

 

But one thing at a time.
