Subject: Custom head morphs in Poser... how?

jamminwolf ( ) posted Wed, 06 March 2013 at 1:42 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 10:35 AM

Hey guys, I've always used an easy free script in Daz Studio (created by someone else) to export custom head (and eye and neck) morphs as a pz2 file, and it's only been updated to DS3.  Since then, the creator of these custom scripts has quit (or simply can't update to Daz3D's newer programs).  I don't mind using DS3 at all (and I still use it for creating DS mats for people still using it), but I fear one day DS3 will be a "thing in the past" and the newer DS won't be able to use these pz2 file.  Silly, I know, but you never know what Daz3D's up to anymore.

With DS advancing and not including such easy "creator's" tools, but having buyers go through these much more extremely difficult tools (which you purchase separately), and since learning Poser quite a bit, I'm curious how to create custom head morphs in Poser instead, with the same folder format (ie ChanVis/Deltas under libraries/character name).  Also, like the script in DS3, does Poser mix magnets (d-formers in DS language) with other custom morphs, such as "V4 Ultra Morphs MR" from RDNA?

I'm using Poser9, SR3.  Any thoughts?  I'd appreciate any help I can get!

You ask how to "create" head morphs in Poser, but I think you are really asking how to save head morphs. There are various ways.

1). You can export the head as an obj file. To load the obj as a morph you would select the head, then from the Object menu use Load Morph Target.

2). For figures that use PBMCC channels (eg V4, M4, Antonia, and many others), you can use Snarlygribbly's Scene Fixer to produce a standard delta injection pose. Before proceeding you should zero the figures pose, and make sure that your custom morph is the only one being expressed.

3). You can make a pmd injection. See Nerd's "Poser 6 PMD Injection" tutorial. Before proceeding you should create a copy of the cr2 with all morphs except your custom head morph stripped out, and use this file to generate the pmd file. I don't think pmd files are supported in D|S.

4). For figures that use PBMCC channels, on a PC, you can use ** Pozers Little Helper** to create a delta injection pose.

5). You can use CR2 Editor or CR2Builder in conjunction with a pz2 template to create a delta injection pose.

This list is not exhaustive. You will probably find methods #1 and #2 the easiest to use.

You can also use the syrinj utility that's available DAZ. You enter the original obj, then your morphed obj and it creates a pz2 of the deltas of your morph. You would only have to edit the file to automatically turn on the morph, the script just injects your morph.

Hey, thanks a lot, guys.  I grabbed Snarlygribbly's Scene Fixer, since it's an updated one.  As for exporting as obj then importing and all that, I'm really not into that unless I want to create a cr2 file (which I do know how to do).

I haven't tested this file yet, but I'm not doubtful it'll work, it sounds very simple.

Again, thanks so much!! :)
