If you are good with the standard Poser materials and lights and render engine, you will be good at Reality / Lux.

If standard poser materials, lights and render engine are giving you lots of trouble, so will another render engine.

You have to understand what all the nodes and lgihts do in your scene.

And no, material and light setups, are NOT always interchangable between all the different render engines.

As pointed out above, a lot of the "cheeting" that had been done in the past has to be removed from the material room.

You can ony do that if you know exactly what you are doing.
And that is the learning curve to go from one render engine to another render engine. 

I can cook a meal.

In the end I will have a hot meal, but each will require a different setup and procedure. 

The difference between a good render and a "WHAW' render is in the fingertips.
