For Poser and the like, I'm not very keen on the idea that purchased tutorials offer anything more than the free tutorials you can find scattered around the net. That doesn't mean that the creators of these tutorials don't have something valuable to say nor does it mean that they're products are never worth buying.

But, a bit of diligence and perseverence can net you a lot of free knowledge, if you're willing to put the effort into it.

As far as a general lighting tutorial for 3D goes, I wouldn't waste money on it. Every 3D application is different and comes with many different tools in order to generate renders. While the basics are universal, the specifics are what's important in order to accomplish your goal. You can learn the basics of 3D lighting for free, just by searching for free tutorials. When you're ready for specifics regarding your application of choice, that's when you have to weigh the value of your time versus the money spent.

Note: If you are not at all yet familiar with 3D lighting, rendering, basic materials and the like, then you may find some time-saving value in such a basic tutorial. But, if you spend a bit of time, you'd probably find the same sort of knowledge and tutorials for free, though maybe less professionally presented.
