I know. CSG= Constructive Solid Geometry. Povray has a trace function that can be used to generate a mesh, but you'd be at it forever with something like even a small cabin. I have exactly no knowledge of the internal workings of Povray, but if I could somehow figure a way to take their texture codes and use them to create the textures for use in something else, that would be wonderful. However, that falls under the "nothing else understands Povspeak." Poseray lets me take figures from Poser into Povray and that works pretty good, generate a terrain complete with trees and brush in Povray then import the figures. Basically I'm kinda lazy when it comes to scenery, and using some routines from those that know what they're doing, I can randomly plant, scale, rotate and mix different types of trees, with no limits on how many I put in. Twenty thousand isn't even an unusual number for a large scene. The same trees, they're generated in a java program, exporting either Pov or obj, three of the obj into poser and it's gasping and dying. Don't know how pov handles them differently, but they do. Same as with Poser though, the more that are in it, the more shadows it's calculating, and you might start tonight and come back next week to see what it looks like.
