Hi lululee!
The sub-d, as I understand it, creates a shell around an existing figure (you don't physically see a shell or anything :) ) and it allows separate sub-d for preview and render time. Sub-d can be applied differently for different body parts also if you need that - BEST for un-connected parts like eyeballs, otherwise could be seaming at where body parts connect. Sub-D also works on props.
Genesis in Poser, as it currently stands, has it's own sub-d control via DSON for Poser - I'm not sure how or if Poser's sub-d would work on top of that... or if it would cause issues.
