I always upgraded to the pro version but think its too advanced for me. Don't you think it wud be better if I upgraded to the Poser10 when avail?  NOt sure of the difference between the two

I think I'd go Pro, just for the Fitting Room.

For the 64 bits too ;)

That is the reason I bought a copy of 2012, even though I already had Poser 9.

I was having memory issues with certain renders.  Upgrading to Pro fixed that.

But that should not be an issue with the new versions.  It sounds like Poser 10 will have a 64-bit version.  Honestly, I can't see any self-respecting software not have a 64-bit version in this day and age.

On the requirements page for Poser 10:-

Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8 (64-bit OS required for 64-bit installation)*

Check further down the page.  64 bit rendering and 64 bit native application are not checked for Poser 10

Not sure why that installation line says that?

Well spotted there!!!! So why put it in the requirements!!!!! Naughty SM!!!!

Perhaps a little word to SM would give us the info.

The more interesting thing is creating clothing within Poser..

And this sounds very interesting indeed..

Pixar Subdivision Surfaces We've integrated Pixar's OpenSubdiv library to provide Pixar Subdivision Surfaces, with user definable subdivision levels per prop, figure or even individual body part. Subdivision improves bending fidelity, smooths polygonal surfaces and improves performance by enabling lighter poly-count content. Poser includes a new Unimesh skinning method to support subdivision on figures with compliant geometry.

Poser 10 is only 32 bit.

It can run on a 64bit machine but you won't get the capabilities of 64 bit.

Have they fixed anything?  Collapsed hierarchy, functioning animation panels?  Or did those parts just get worse as usual?

I can't believe that Poser 10 is still only 32bit...64bit is now the norm. When will SM realise they are treating 64bit access like champagne, when really it's just coffee. Not that it worries me...I use the Pro version anyway, but their attitude does seem like it's stuck in the last decade as far as 32/64bit is concerned.

Well, I guess they assume that non-pros don't need access to more than 3 gigs of RAM during a render. They obviously don't use any of the new textures for DAZ's figures;)

Yes, I also think that's a huge mistake. With all the other features of Pro that standard doesn't have you'd think they could throw the standard users a bone and get with the rest of the world and supply 64 bit for both version. Sorry, but 64 bit IS NOT a pro feature ;). It's a modern computer compliant feature. Dirty pool SM - it IS 2013 ;). I've had a 64 bit OS for almost 10 years ffs.

yeah, it is a bit like the gamma correction. I expect SM will learn that they don't need that as a differentiator for the next version.

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 08 May 2013 at 10:03 AM

Very much agreed.  64 bit should not be just a pro feature.  Pro has plenty to offer besides that.

Like the fitting room.  Would it work on Genesis, do you think?

Fugazi1968 ( ) posted Wed, 08 May 2013 at 1:17 PM

Did someone say Gamma Correction?  I think that both versions now include GC.

Ack!  I just bought Pro 2012.  :(

I'm still pretty green, but it sounds like there isn't much to the new version I want.

  • Bullet Physics for Soft Body Dynamics, Rigid Body and Hair (not sure what this is exactly).

Smith Micro, how about features I'd really like?

Conforming clothing that works all the time (or 99%)...  Sometimes it works right off the bat, but I'm often messing with a clothes morp script, or Wardrobe Wizard, or the morphs dials trying to get clothes to fit without pokethrough even though I'm using standard morphs.

Hair.  Seems the collisions setting is pointless, at least for still renders.  (Yes I set for all objects then turn collisions on).  Hair that could deform on on object automatically would make it a lot easier and add to realism.

If you have a look at the link supplied by paganeagle2001 you will see the new fitting room hopefully this will fix a lot of the problems one has with conforming clothing..

There are some creators out there that make excellent looking clothing that fits well abd there are others that don't..

The process of creating clothing is not as easy as some think it is, even clothing for Genesis can be ill fitting and that has the best system for fitting conforming clothing..

But in the end it is the inherant problems with the model you are fitting the clothing to that creates poke through Daz's Gen 4 characters are notorius for poke through due to the design of the base model..

If you recently bought Poser from Smith Micro, they are offering free upgrades.

And yes, it sounds like the new Fitting Room is what you say you want.

Assuming it works as advertised...

nobodyinparticular ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2013 at 6:03 AM

There is a discussion and demo video over at RDNA. Nerd 3D says it is not a one click solution. I remember weight mapping looked easy in the preview. However, I suspect this will be a great one.

Free upgrade only goes back to April 21.  :(

Edit to ghosty and randy, I thought I have been buying quality clothing most of which has been from merchants here, with matching Victoria 4 morphs, but the conforming as you say with Daz gen 4 leaves much to be desired.

For those wishing to express their dissapointment with the lack of 64bit rendering in Poser 10 please post at this forum so Smith Micro will get the message:
