I wish to beg to differ as to there being no reason except commercial for splitting them into male/female. If one understands 3D modeling and topology, and looks at the actual mesh, one will quickly see that the G2F mesh is optimized to a female form. There was a reason to split them from a design perspective. If one doesn't see that by looking at the mesh in wireframe, it is because they don't understand advanced topology in 3D design.
It is not just extra polygons, it is how those polygons flow and where they are placed.
