Subject: Default ground prop

Does anyone ever use it and if so what is the purpose. I normally make it invisible, delete all the default lights and just load a point light..

I use the Ground prop (wireframe) for scaling. 😄
(change the Scale of the GROUND to measure feet, inches, mm, cm, etc.)

Did someone say "Scale?"

@vitachick: you'd better change your default scene then...

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though

Changing the default scene:

Get things the way you like to start, then on the main menu Edit:General Preferences.  Click on "Launch to Preferred Scene" then hit the Set Preferred Scene button.

Close Poser.   The next time you start, it will start the way you want.

In older Poser versions, the default ground prop was set up as a shadow catcher. So set up it gives the shadows the figure would have on flat ground  under the scene light. You can then layer the render over an image in Photoshop with more or less realistic ground shadow.

I've added textures and displacement maps to the default ground texture with decent results. Saves time modeling a landscape.

This was a quick throw together and I missed on the lighting, but you can see the ground plane works quite well with displacement and texturing.

Let me know if you need any tips. One I can give you right now is that you will have to reposition your figure to account for the depth of the displacement.
