Subject: Vue doesn't support Poser Unimesh...

Now, mind you, I'm only using the latest version of Complete, so I don't know if this is true for Infinite.

When a Poser scene contains a figure that is Unimesh skinned, what loads into Vue is that figure's "box tracking" substitute. Kind of weird. Looks like we need to get a new SDK from SmithMicro to E-On.

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

By unimesh, do you mean Genesis from DAZ?

No, no. In Poser Pro 2014 (and I suppose Poser 10 as well) the user can choose different "skinning methods" for each figure and prop. It affects how the characters are smoothed during rendering. The two main methods are "Poser Traditional" and "Unimesh", which offers greater control over surface subdivision and generally (but not always) looks better when rendered in Poser.

Unfortunately, as I stated, as of now, figures with unimesh skinning cannot be imported into Vue...the "Boxy Proxy" shows up instead.

 

Speaking of surface subdivision, why does Vue's version (available in the object editor window) suck SOOOOOO bad while pretty much every other program, including Poser has it right?

Vue is mostly for rendering already made objects.  It is not at all great with modifying objects.  More often then not, objects are made worse.  Best practice is to do all modeling/editing in another program first, then render completed model in Vue.

eon has problems listening to its user base since version 4 & on.  Just accept it or move on because it is unlikely to change.  Poser's renderer has come a long way.  Last project I skipped vue all together because it looked better & was easier than vue.  But vue has that certain something.

I won't even bother rendering Poser figures in Vue unless I have SkinVue Elite installed (and working).  It's getting easier these days to just add Poser figures to Vue renders in post.

I asked E-On a couple of weeks ago and got a quick reply. They said something about having gotten the wrong info from the Poser folks and were waiting for the correct info. So I imagine we will have a new SDK soon.

The SDK is the same in the Pro versions.

Good to hear. New characters in Poser (and DAZ Studio, for that matter) are becoming far more dependent on "rendertime subdivision" to look right. Since Poser is now using "Pixar Subdivision", E-On should be looking at it too.

REALLLLLLY could use an update to SkinVue. Too many new characters not supported...

(Is Dave Burdick even out there anymore? If so, is he still the person who's doing SkinVue?)
