I too got that e-mail, maybe they send that to all their former platinum club members.
As for the topic about DAZ and their new directions...
Well I started out with Daz in 2006 and purchased all I could for V3 and M3 at the time and V4 just months later I think, I was like jeez! At the time a friend used poser4 or 5 and found DS far more easier to set up scenes with being able to select more than one body part or texture at a time was great. I also purchased Bryce 6 at the time which I still use and love so I stick with daz for some time until DS3 came out (It crashed on a constant basis!) and that's when I converted to Poser7 which I got used to the UI after a while and was far more easier to use than I ever imagined. I still did purchase many other things at DAZ for a while, eck after a few years I converted to V4 and M4 with many packs, kits and add-on and low and behold a week later the genesis fugure came out lol. :P
In any case like many others around here it seems, I too loved to use DS and purchased at their store often. I still use DS2.3 daily and V3 and M3 are still my mostly used figures since I invested in them allot, I also prefer them to many other figures even the more modern ones. I cannot stand the face of V4 especially that horrible smile which gives me nightmares, even with all the morphs I could find or sculpt my self... Anyway, when they gave us DS4 and DS4.5+ I just couldn't get into them since the user interface I loved about the older versions was gone and I was forced into a UI I have no comfort with even when I tried and tried to give it a chance, but what really stopped me from going back to DS was the lack of dynamic clothing I could import as an obj file since I model most of my figure clothes for the most part and that was it with DS for me. So I decided to purchase Poserpro 2012 (Which kept pretty much the old poser UI which was great, now If I could just find the way to load my 2012 pro library offline that would be even better!) and now have 2014 on my radar, therefore I doubt I'll ever go back to any new DS versions.
As far as 3D content goes, my 3D budget has its limits, but I still purchase more than I should and I tend to buy allot in one shot and then let a month or more pass by and then I make another burst of purchases and so on. The past few years I started to avoid the DAZ store because their price tags went to the roof. I understand why many vendors do it, but with a store like Renderosity and a few others out there that I don't need to name are stores which I can find poser related models at a respectable price tag with the same kind of quality that fulfils my 3D hobby needs.
I'm not bashing DAZ, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have found this wonderful 3D hobby, I'm just saying why I went elsewhere as stated above. I might go back to them someday, but with the way things are right now I no longer visit their store because I don't need to.
