Can you tell me which browser you are using?  I just uploaded and do not see this happening for me.

Hopefully this has been corrected.

I tried chrome, firefox and IE. 

I now think it was uploading the thumbnail, but when I went to the edit page, it shows the full size image as the thumbnail. This lead me to believe the thumbnail was not working.
