I thought I'd have a crack at morphing Dawn the other night. After twerking her polygons about a bit I arrived at the above...

...new to this. But I certainly had fun. Tempted to get the one merchant resource skin that seems to be out for her so far and try to make some textures to match any further sculpts I do.

I am hoping St Fox / Digital Lion are planning a texture resource for her... the packs I got from them, for a couple of other figures are really nicely put together.

Looking forward to getting some ++ type morphs for the figure... and seeing some more pro characters come out for her.

It's probably not great... I didn't bother getting any anatomy references in front of me or anything... and face is just made up entirely from my head.

(so any resemblance to actual persons either living or dead is definitely pure coincidence)

But next, I reckon I'll compile some photo references and try and work from those.

I'd originally planned to work with Roxie (and Rex) for the whole exercise of learning to sculpt. But since I happened to be playing around with Dawn, I went with her.

Will be interesting to see how it differs working with Roxie and her lower poly subd optimised mesh I think...

Saintfox is doing a Living Doll version for Dawn.

All the best.

Thanks for the info Paganeagle, that's good to know! I'll definitely give up some more time to trying to make some characters with Dawn then... :-)

She certainly looks different dfrom Default Dawn :D Nice job.

You do know that her native textures are also a Merchant Ressource, right?

Thanks Trekkiegrrrl :-)

Yeah, I do know the base texture is an MR too... however if the St Fox / DL one takes the same layered Photoshop PSD approach as the V4 and Alyson 2 MRs of theirs that I've already got, then that will, I think, be a big help to me, in trying to arrive at something that is distinct from the default Dawn...

With this sculpt, with the face, I mostly focused on the nose and mouth... and to a lesser extent the ears... although I mostly just used the ZBrush smoothing brush on the ears to soften those and reduce them in size a little (not that, I now realise, the ears are really visible in my posted renders so far!)

I'd like to do more with the eyes / eye sockets / brows... but, if I'm honest, I've yet to figure out the best way to hide her ginormous eyelash geometry in ZBrush, so that I can try to sculpt around her eyes and brows... he he :-)

I did a little to them I think, when I made some further adjustments in Hexagon (mostly to fix her mouth, as my ZBrush sculpt had stopped her lips from closing fully... so I fine tuned, in Hex, to fix compatibility with the existing expression morphs).

But I reckon (even disregarding the contribution that the recognisable Dawn texture makes) the eyes and brows in my effort so far are still what most clearly gives it away as being based on Dawn...?

Cheers :-)

I think it's a very cute morph!

About hiding the eyelash geometry, I know in 3D coat you can select a poly on the eyelashes then use the +/- keys to expand it and then select hide.  Not sure how zbrush works with that.

Thanks :-)

Similar in Hexagon, re. hiding polys. Must be similar in ZBrush, just not found it yet.

It has also now occured to me that there might be options to select materials in Poser's GoZ dialogbox? Not sure about that but I'll check in due course...

Monkeycloud - in Zbrush you use polygroups - in the polygroups palette you can create polygroups by UV's and topology. Toggle the polyframe button to see the groups, then shift-control-click to hide/show different ones.

GoZ from Poser will let you choose to export body parts or materials as groups, just hit polyframe to see them.

Caisson

You beat me to it! :-) That is how I get around the huge eyelashes!

MC:

Also try Move Topological to close the lips. I've got some rather drastic morphs that move and reshape the teeth, eyes, and inner mouth along with the head and face. Sometimes with displacement maps there is a little poke through with the lips. I can fix this by using the MT brush to pull the lips forward just slightly-the same works to close the mouth.

Ah, Polygroups, thanks! That's just what I was looking for :-)

I'll have another look at the Move Topological brush too. I did actually try that, before reverting to Hexagon. But I've since realised that my issue with the MT brush would have been solved by scaling up some more first... I'd not been able to reduce the size of the brush sufficiently to move just the polys I needed to, to close the lips.
