Not totally related to your question specifically but might help you understands paths since it is something I am still learning. But this tutorial discuss setting things along a path in several parts of the whole tutorial Create an Underground Subway Scene – Part 1 of 2 I completed this tutorial myself and it gave me a base understanding of how to set up a path and then set up parts that will follow that path. It might help you in that regard
