Blender's sculpting tools work very well too. But Phil is right - I don't believe there is any shortcut.

Find a modelling or sculpting program that works for you, then stick with it. In choosing your modelling program, make sure there are plenty of tutorials available, check Youtube and 3d websites. You may have to buy a book or two and use them.

Bionicrooster was probably the 3d creator that got up to speed the fastest. One week he was a self-proclaimed beginner asking newbie questions, a few weeks later he was a vendor (or so it seemed to me). I don't know how he did it so fast, perhaps he will tell us his secret. It took me about two years.
