OK, managed to find the answer at Intel: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html
The '4' in '4xxx' indicates 4th generation. Both versions have the same processor. Advertising the more expensive version as having a ' 4th generation' processor is just a marketing ploy by the vendor.
