I have one or two texture sets where you have to apply both a body texture mat pose AND a face texture mat pose.  Otherwise I get exactly what you're describing.  Not sure why the creators did it like that.  I was chasing my tail for a while before realizing I needed to apply a face texture mat pose separately.
