I've always declinded any teaching offer ,cause I sux at teaching so bear with me.

A Blender forum would be way more helpful then me.

& I'm not trying to be snoby or anything .
scultpris is more of a door way to zBrush.
zBrush is not a all pourpose app ,it's a plug for them.
most the time to make vector map ,displacment map,normal map.

all purpose apps Max,Maya,C4D,LW,Blender.

Here is how most would make beast with the main all pourpose apps along with Blender.

Step 1 Sculpt beast with millions of polygones for a lot of detail.

Step 2 retopologize beast with a polycount of 20.000 to 30.000 for rigs.

Step 3 burn the sculpt on to the beast as a ,vector map ,displacment map,normal map.

Normal maps keep polycount low,used in games.

Step 4 painting ,ah ,I don't know about painting in Blender.
*in zBrush or any app ya would temporary subD the retopologize beast to a real high polycount ,polypaint ,burn texture to uv map.or just paint the flat uvmap in something like gimp.*or http://quixel.se/ddo/

Step 5 rigs.I would only rig meshes with a polycount of 30.000 or lower.

This is not the only way but it's how a lot do.
