I can't say anything about sketchup ,never used it.

but before I got it I would check out the site videos ,see the you tube video's ,get the demo.Ask on forums the good & bad.

See if it can do rounded edges.might want to see if it can to SubD's.
if it can see how good it is at mapping & texturing.
and all the other things your need to know

and most of all see if it can make killer meshes.

and have a very good understanding of the app.
