Perhaps switching off gamma correction on your renders may avoid this or at least bring an improvement?

In the atmosphere editor you can change the atmosphere model to photometric, but only in Vue 2014.

Ok. I don't have that version. I can only imagine though that Vue's atmosphere/camera gamma no longer ignores the diffuse gamma for objects, which it always did before. So it's probably a gamma setting that didn't need looking at in previous Vue versions.
