Could be worse, imagine something like this..:) And therein lies in the problem, modern devs and advertisers are so hung up on the desire for "appification" they forget about concepts such as useability and end purpose. Stuff that Nielsen discovered back when Poser was a toddler. Take for example freestuff pages, not just here, but at any other site. The purpose is to showcase and drive traffic to the store pages. Where ultimately the customer will want to spend millions so all the sellers can buy learjets and yachts :) Problem is if all a customer sees is a single large image, in effect saying "buy this", they'll ignore it. Keep doing it, especially with the same image and theres a good danger of inadvertent mental blocking aka "banner blindness". Worse still is those technically adept souls who'll get annoyed they'll simply block all adverts. Either way the purpose is lost. So give us some good design. Tempt us, tease us, even challenge our conventions. But please not another anodyne version of faceb*llocks/twitter/whatever's perceived as hot this week.
