Hmm. I have not bothered making the functions you mentioned, except for extruded path shapes. I have no experience with metaballs but I've heard of them.

For extrusion, I have functions that can project a polygon along a polyline, and I can generate that polyline from any continuous math function. As well, I can modulate the extruded polygon as it traverses the path. This can make some interesting objects.
