I am glad some of my info help. I run both a 32bit and 64bit versions of Blender one as an exe and the second from zip since I have a few addons that will not work at all in the 64bit version. I have found many of the version of Blender on graphicall.org to be user compiled versions that have many bells and whistles that are still in the Blender development pipeline but unless your system specifically meets the same as the user who has uploaded their compiled version doesn't always play nice so I tend to stick to the releases from Blender.org. I have also heard many complaints about Windows 8 and Blender one reason even when i upgrade my current system it will still be a Windows 7 machine dual booting into Linux. One of our very knowledgable members in this forumRobynsVeil has pointed out many benfits in using Blender within a Linux enviorment. Kyraia if ti is a PC issue then I would suggest making sure your graphic cards drivers are up to date that in my experince has been the cuase of 75% of any Blender problems I have had in the past when it is PC related.
