I don't think you even have to use collada export. Go back to the original poser scene. Now delete the objects like the sphere you don't need in Vue. Don't hide it, delete it. I'm guessing that sphere rather huge, so delete and it will not consume memory in Vue. Then try again :)
Secondly, there are a few options you have when impoting items. It sounds like you have quite a large scene, so it will take up a lot of memory in Vue. As soon as the poser import menu comes up choose only the following settings: group figures as single meshes and import single frame from poser animation (leave it to zero). These are the least memory consuming settings.
If that doesn't work, split the scene in poser itself and save as 2 or 3 seperate pz3's and import those into Vue.
One thing you may want to check when importing is memory. I'm not sure how much you do have, but opening a large Poser scene in Vue is possible, but consumes a lot of memory. Also make sure you close as much applications as possible when importing the scene, also Poser, since that likes memory almost as much as Vue :)
Collada is possible, but you loose a huge benefit. If you import a pz3 into Vue, even with the minimum settings, it keeps a link to the pz3. If for some reason you need to change things in Poser, Vue will recognize those and asks if you want to reload the change into Vue as well. Works great, so if you manage to import pz3's that's simply the best solution.
If only one figure gives you trouble, save that one as a seperate pz3 and remove here from the main scene and import them seperately in Vue, that may work well. You just need to place the figure at the right position and that can be tricky :)
Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....
