I don't have Mudbox now, but I have used it for years. The differences between Mudbox and Zbrush are mostly in the UI, and workflow with AD products. Mudbox works with Maya and 3dmsax in a more integrated fashion, or so they want you to believe, because it's part of the AD suite of integrated tools.
I think Mudbox has a more robust retopology toolset, currently, than 3D-Coat or Topogun, but 3dsmax has native retopo tools I feel are still better than Mudbox. AD will probably never update 3dsmax retopo tools now that Mudbox has it though, and that's sad news.
Now that I've tried 3D-coat, however, I prefer it's paiting tools to what are in Mudbox currently, and the UI is much easier to learn in my opinion.
