Yes! Definitely worth it. Modeling and UV mapping can be learned rather quickly. The modeling tools are great. Most everything you need can be found with just a right mouse click. UV mapping is pretty easy and the resulting maps come out pretty good.

I'd suggest you take some time and go through all the tutorials here

It won't take you too long, and when you're done you'll have a very good understanding of Silo and it's tools.
