On the preview window, llittle arrow on the upper right, open the context menu and try reload textures command.  If that doesn't work, open the material room, advanced tab and check if the new textures are loading in at all.  There are 2 possibilities, search feature in General Preferences is not deep enough, but that may give you a texture not found error, or there might be a conflict with a similarly named texture file in the runtime.
