Actually, I'm contemplating starting my own kickstarter campaign to finance a movie I want to do that I wrote. If I'd known about Kickstarter 10 to 15 years ago ( it didn't exist)I certainly would have done it.

The biggest impediment for now is figuring out what an investor gets if they  contribute?
