Hello KiteMaster
First welcome to the Blender Forum here at Renderosity. Now I am running 2.49b and Have the latest Blender 2.72b but have run almost each of the new versions of Blender since 2.5. Do you have python installed on your system? Are you running 2.65 from a folder or actually installed on the system? And what are your system specs what OS are you running and is it 32 or 64 bit OS? I know with the install of 2.49 you have to have python actually installed on your system Python 2.6 but if you run it only from a folder instead of an actual install you do not need python installed. Check insode of your installed 2.49 and check if you have the following two files Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest & Microsoft.VC90.OpenMP.manifest these two files may have become corrupt and may need to be replace and think the only way to replace them is from a fresh install of 2.49.
I hava Windows 7 64 bit and I found the two folders you mentioned so I uninstalled Blender and plan on reinstalling it as for Python the second window that show up for Blender says this:
Compiled with Python version 2.6.2
' import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python... No installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scriptes my not run.
Continuing happily.
The thing is I know that I didn't installed Python but that error I mentioned before is preventing me from doing that. Also I tried installing the Windows updates and it keeps giving me an error code and I've been dealing with it for months.
