You can use DIM to install the C8.5 beta without having to use it for anything else - DIM is passive, it doesn't do anything you don't tell it to do (when you run it and log in it gets your account details so that it can show what is available, then it downloads the items you tell it to and installant the items you tell it to; that's it).
