Subject: Poser Pro 2014 Memory Problems

Hi, Everyone!

Last year I had a new computer custom built because I wanted to be able to run PP2014 to the best of its abilities. It is running Win 7 64 bit, with 32 GB RAM, an Intel i4770k process and an NVIDIA Quadro KC2000 vid card. When i had it built I wanted the best i could get because I was tired of the limitations on my old PC. It has been a good computer, but i am having render issues with this machine and PP2014. It is intermittent so I have a feeling it is happening when I am multitasking. When I attempt to render an image, using the draft render settings, the screen will often freeze, the screen will flash and jump back and forth between whatever is open and just generally does not work well. After a time it will finally finish, and in viewing the Task Manager when having these issues, it shows that the CPU is running at 100% capacity. This whole situation has me dumbfounded. I know Poser has a reputation of being a memory hog, but if this processor and amount of RAM will not handle it, I am at a loss.

I've read in a thread a long time ago about setting the priority for the process when it is running, but the computer will not let me change this to below normal for some reason, which I am sure is some kind of system protection. I also know there is a way to limit the number of threads that are allowed to be used during rendering but I haven't a clue as to how this would be set. I will upload some screen shots of my render settings as soon as I figure out why I can't append an image from http://prntscr.com.

TIA

C~

I can't speak to your video issues, but when rendering, Poser should be using pretty close to 100% CPU...

to limit the number of threads you need to be in general preferences / render (is a slider)

is a box to render in separate process (that may help)

I would have thought your comp is well capable of running poser

have you checked your video drivers are up to date ?? get them from NVidia not as windoze update

@heddheld - I believe that did the trick, kind sir. Many thanks!

my 2ct: my tutorial on managing Poser as a program (CPU, RAM etc) starts here: http://www.book.artbeeweb.nl/?p=162 so take your pick.

On top of that, I've found that temperature control might pay off when loading the machine for longer render times. I do use Speccy (piriform.com) for that.

Always render as a seperate process indeed. When Firefly crashes, your Poser remains alive.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though
