    Catfish is not kosher;  kosher fish must have both fins and scales, but catfish have smooth skin (no scales).  By the same requirement, no shellfish are kosher.  Salmon and mackerel -preferably smoked!yes.gif~original- are probably the most popular.  The sea of Galilee has considerable tilapia, and those are fished locally.

     The "both fins and scales" rule may seem arbitrary, but it eliminates most bottom-feeders and carrion eaters.  Catfish eat corpses, excrement, anything "tasty" on the riverbed.icon_lol.gif~original
