Subject: I REALLY need to find out how to UN-PARENT a prop so I can fit it to a different

Select the item and go to Object > Change Parent and set to None or Dawn. Once you set it up for Dawn, just resave a copy back to the library.

Make sure you use a different name to save it to the library such as "DawnProp". No need to overwrite the existing  prop.
