Sorry, Paul.  Whatever it is, I'm not willing to risk my computer for a render engine I can't afford in the long term anyway.  I have the GT650 with 2Mb RAM on the card, 8Gb RAM in the machine and I overclock nothing.

But, the bottom line is simple.  I won't re-install (yes, I've already removed it) because I won't risk the health of my computer with continued crashes.

I have never heard of anyone damagng their equipment using Octane.  Cuda is even nice enough to throw an error when your graphics card gets too hot.  Seeing your equipment very low spec - I think the issue is actually the NVidia drivers timing out.  The resolution for this is to set your Render Prior to Low - http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=29.  You can also run the OctaneVR Standalone installer, which will increase the NVidia card timeout.

(Whilst I realise your will not re-install, others might have this same issue - so providing the answer above for their reference).
