Subject: Crashing Carrara

Hi Everybody. I have a Mac with the updated version of Carrara from Eovia. Recently I have had trouble with Carrara quiting on me whenever I take a model to the modeling room. It doesn't matter if I double-click or use the menu the program frequently crashes whenever I attempt to edit the model. I had many problems with Meta-Creations half-baked version of Carrara but nothing that was this persistant. Is this a problem specific to the Mac, has anyone else have this happen? One other note. When I am in the spline modeler the first X coordinate for measuring the length of the spline model will transpose with the Y coordinate. It still functions the same its just not consistent. I have not made the correlation if those particular spline models are the ones that are making my program quit. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

I saw frequent crashes using Carrara 1.0, but it's been stable in recent versions (1.1, e. g.) [Mac OS 9.0.4, 256 MB physical RAM, 400 MHz G3] I have found that I need to assign at least 200 MB RAM to Carrara 1.1 to avoid crashes. Not virtual memory. the assembly and model rooms make heavy use of the OpenGL extensions and your graphics card, so you could check those to see if they are up-to-date and if you have something active (like Toast extensions) that might conflict with them. The usual advice is to use a minimal extension set limited to quicktime, openGl, graphics card and related extensions. Haven't seen x-y transposition.

Thanks for the info Miss Nancy. As for specifics I do have Carrara version 1.1, Mac OS 8.6, 600+ megs of ram (Carrara gets well over half of it), 300 MHz G3 and I do not run virtual memory. I will check the OpenGL and other extensions. I dread to even think it but could I have a corrupt system. Should I call Dr. Norton? memaci

I run C on both a G3 350 tower with SYS 8.6 and a Pismo G3 400 with SYS 9.0.4 and don't have too much trouble. Have bout 175+ ram allocated to C most of the time.

Thanks to all for your help. But I must move back to the stable 2-D world for awhile. I am going to assume that I have a system problem and that it is not a problem specific to Carrara. Good day to all. memaci
