Here's a recommendation, take an image of an emblem found on the web and construct the mesh based on the design.  Proportion the mesh accordingly to fit the costume.  I'm going to imagine that the ratio will be more wider than longer.

 

 

I had that same thought. The problem is finding a large image to use. That one you posted would be perfect, but when I put it in Wings, it's pixelated and hard to see. I will keep looking when I get off work for a usable image.
