Subject: Prime membership renewal???

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 17 July 2015 at 5:06 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:45 PM

So what happens for all the ORIGINAL prime members whose memberships expired today? Nobody has seen anything about a renewal offer. We can't get into the Prime forum not being members any more. There was a bunch of posts there about this matter and there was no answer except just wait. Well we have waited and .. duh.

3dstories ( ) posted Fri, 17 July 2015 at 5:54 AM

Hi!

The short answer is that the "Prime" button for Renewals currently has a price of $29.99.

Yes, there is a Thread in the Prime forum entititled "Prime Anniversary?" that has been going for a couple of days that says the same thing:

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 17 July 2015 at 8:43 AM

Can you explain how I can get to the information in that thread if my Prime membership expired today so I can't get to the prime forum? I have been looking on the home page every day for information on the Prime anniversary.

Hi mazzam,

Below is the link to the Prime membership for $29.99:

That really is not good folks.  I've been a prime member for years, and to have that membership expire when we were all waiting for an announcement, that we WERE asking for is not helpful.  Nothing wrong with the price point, $29.99 is fine, but you aren't building up loyalty this way.  We were due some kind of answer on the Prime Forum before 7/17, - that is the date a lot of us expired.  No announcements, no e-mails, nothing - and we are currently locked out of that forum.

You sure you don't want to nudge management on this thing?  It's an extremely time sensitive issue.

hornet3d ( ) posted Sat, 18 July 2015 at 2:32 PM

They may have been busy with the changes they were making to the Prime membership, one of those changes being the drop in price.

I agree there could have been better communication though.  I have had an email in the last hour or so about the proposed changes to Prime, I am not sure if it did but it should have gone to all Rendo customers or, at the very least, both existing and ex-members of Prime.

I'm still waiting on that e-mail.  I had $100 in items in my cart that are now on my wishlist because I can't use the prime member coupon when I am not a prime member.  I'm not hopping mad by any means, but it is annoying.  If you got it in the last hour they may be preparing an update to the site.  I'll wait.

I think the important information, particularly if there are Prime items in your wishlist, is that there is going to be an increase in price from $3.50 on some Prime items. There is no list of which ones, but a list has been requested, unfortunately that is in the Prime Forum as well.  The justification for the price rise is that they will be able to offer a wider selection on top quality items.  The price rises will not take effect to until the 1st August.  There are a lot of other plus points and this is the only possible negative I can see.

They're following the DAZ route on that one.  Understandable, if you don't move a price point you start getting more limited choices from the PA's.  Oh well, I guess I am going to have to re-enlist to find out what is going on, but if I'm one of the 7 dwarves it isn't Happy.  Dopey maybe... :P

Thank you for the link.  Is the email going out to all Renderosity customers?.  It is great that the Prime users get a sneak preview of the changes, assuming you got the original email, but surely it should eventually be seen by all.

Yes, what they said about this being a little late. My membership silently expired at the anniversary too.

All right, I got the mail today (one hour ago), but a couple days ago would had been nicer. (No, I didn't think of visiting the Prime forum before it happened; Renderosity is sending out enough newsletters for me to fully rely on them for any store-related announcements.)

Just saying, no hard feelings.

jennblake ( ) posted Sat, 18 July 2015 at 6:35 PM

I am sorry it came a bit late for you to renew until after your membership had expired. Thankfully with the new low price you do not need a prime member coupon to take advantage of that price. We think there are some great new things happening with the Prime Membership this year!

hornet3d ( ) posted Sun, 19 July 2015 at 1:58 AM

I like the new changes although I will reserve judgement on the new price rises until I see if they still offer value for money. I do hope some quality Prime products remain at $3.50 for those users on a very tight budget.

It is a shame members did not get any reminder of their membership expiring and also that other members 'fell over' the price drop as it was in place before the announcement.  A slightly earlier announcement would have helped some, even if it was only about the price drop with more information to follow.  On the other hand I don't think members make enough use of the Prime Forum, I am certainly guilty in that respect, perhaps members could come up with ideas to make it more popular.

Even with few problems with the announcement of the changes I think Prime is a great idea, improved with all the changes, so a heart felt thanks all those involved in the Prime changes and effort put in to try and keep it relevant.

Hi homet3d,

The expiration reminder is something we have discussed before and I will be sure to bring it up again to see if we can do something to remind members when their membership is about to expire.

We will also talk and see if we can bring some more 'life' to the Prime forum as I agree it is needed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give your thoughts, suggestions, and concerns as they are certainly appreciated.

I also want to thank you for your support and I hope you have a fabulous day! :)

Whatever the outcome  I am pleased to see that the possibility of a renewal reminder is being considered.  I am not always so supportive of Renderosity but I also believe in being fair and I think the team behind Prime have done and are still doing a great job. Many thanks.

I was thinking of re-joining Prime but am now a bit confused what changes are there going to be and how much have the prices gone up by, I don't want to fork out money only to find that its not worth it for me.

I've been waiting for the anniversary but have heard nothing - no emails advertising it or anything, kinda makes me wonder if you want new members.

Thanks but I'm not a currant Prime member haven't been one for a good while, but I was thinking of re-joining but will not if I don't know what the terms are going to be,  I was waiting for the anniversary but its OK if you don't really want new members I'll just save my money - this seems a really odd way of doing things.

KristiS ( ) posted Sun, 26 July 2015 at 11:26 AM

It was announced to Prime members first since they might have a renewal to worry about however in the beginning of August it will be announced to everyone :)

There is honestly a lot more benefits to a Prime membership now and with the every day price of $29.99, you can't beat it. You will certainly get your money back plus some.

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

I'm glad its not just me I began to wonder if I was missing something blatant and just being stupid, I posted this question nearly 24 hours ago and no answer it really makes one feel that they are just not interested in acquiring new members, even just an acknowledgment of my post would have been nice. The money I have saved for the membership won't last forever especially if I've got no info to go on - might as well spend it elsewhere.

Oh I'm sure they are wanting new members :)  I would be an old new member LOL! Couldn't afford the prime membership at the rate it was but this I can swing.  I just need to understand what the price hikes are going to be other then a vague "get them while they are still at 3.50"  not everyone can do that.  I love the new yearly rate, however that being said, it will depend on what choices I have as far as pricing goes as to whether or not I get it again. If everything jumps to over 5 dollars, then it's not really much of a benefit, is it?

And yes, I wish someone would say something, it's kinda of like asking a question of Daz LOL!  Then again, maybe they do not yet have all of the details worked out...I just don't like making uninformed purchases and to buy a membership today without any forthcoming details, that's what I feel like I would be doing.

I'm really beginning to wonder about this - it would be polite at least to just acknowledge the posts, I haven't spent anything here for ages butt still have some of a GC left so thought I would use that to buy the membership - well its got a year or so until it expires maybe someone will have said something by then.

cypherfox ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2015 at 3:39 PM

Greetings,

I let my Prime membership expire in early July due to frustrations with the RMP.  As far as I could tell before this thread (because of being locked out of the Prime forum), Prime is dead.  No new items since I left; not that my leaving has anything to do with it, it's just the timing is about perfect.

Given the already lower bar of quality here, and seller issues, I finally gave up my Prime membership and let it expire.  The $3.50 price was the only real draw, and even then there was a lot of chaff to wade through.  Clearance is worthless, at 35% or 55% off; I've bought some of those items, and they're worse than free: they cost you time to get to a marginally acceptable use.  Render rewards, at even 7%, are still a pittance.  You could have bought two 'prime' items for every $100 you spend, but if they're not $3.50 anymore, that's not even true.

The monthly coupon was very good, as long as you could find items where the sellers weren't trying to game the coupon by messing around with their intro pricing.

The Renderosity Marketplace doesn't have enough power with its sellers; they are allowed to do unpleasant pricing games (e.g. setting items to 1% off to avoid an 'everything-except sale items' coupon, releasing new items at 20% off, because RMP has a 10% off coupon for that weekend, not providing a new item discount at all, etc.).  The marketplace needs to clamp down on these bad seller behaviors, and have a consistent experience.  (In fairness, there were the opposite; sellers who turned off discounts so folks could use everything-except-sale coupons, and who actively advertised that discounts applied to their items without messing with the discount percentages.  The bad behaviors stick in your memory though, and leave a bad taste.)

I do wish these changes had been communicated to a wider audience, but all it would have done is cemented my choice to drop Prime.  I hope for the sake of folks still in Prime that these changes make things better, get higher quality items, and give RMP more control over the sellers that make it their home.
