Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Thanks for your hard work. Individual users of your Poser freebies should also be able to convert their RSRs to PNGs by using P3DO Explorer's conversion pluin, or even PhilC's Poser Tool Box, was it, IIRC. There was also a stand-alone RSR2PNG exe file, but I can't locate the source.
Best Wishes.

I have finished the job. I have changed all .rsr icon files to .png in my freestuf. Please report all errors to me.
I was thinking of suggesting that someone should write a script to do this right through the freestuff -- and it seems that on 26 July 2015 about 5 pm Wikipedia time, someone already did it as I was looking through my freestuff!! judging by the dates by inserted .png files in my uploads. But I found some unconverted models, which I have now put right; and I found some corrupted models without their graphics files, and I had to put their graphics files in again in edit. And one model was badly corrupted and I had to delete it and re-upload it from scratch.
heres P3do and rsr converter plugin http://www.senosoft.com/download.php
or this one http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=57197
Its handy to have the utility because there is still free stuff with rsr thumbnails. I know I have lots of old stuff that needs conversion if I have to reinstall it.
The answer is, Poser should be put back to automatically convert to .png any .rsr library icon that it comes across, like it did up to Poser 6. Over the years I get endlessly weary of "no backwards compatibility". I sometimes write Windows software, and it was a major &()&() losing the system call function that read or wrote one screen pixel.
I've have a good selection of your models in my runtimes. Compared to the time taken to create them it's only a minor inconvenience to convert the RSR file. Many thanks
Poser 11 , 180Gb in 8 Runtimes, PaintShop Pro 9
Windows 7 64 bit, Avast AV, Comodo Firewall

Thank you Anthony for all your hard work. I think there might be a script at RDNA (though it could be a paid one) that also converts the RSR. It would be an excellent feature for the next version of Poser to have... or a python script for the current one to have....
The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

Currently there are 253 entries which I uploaded to the Renderosity Freestuff. They are mostly CGI models, but a few of them are utilities etc.
I joined Renderosity (or whatever it was called back then) after Poser 3 came in (in 1998) and before Poser 4 came in (in 1999).
Back then, the icon representing each model in Poser's library, was in .rsr mode :: this is a leftover from the Mac computer that the first versions of Poser were developed on, and anyone submitting a model to the library had to accompany it with its .rsr icon file.
A few years later, Poser started keeping its library entry icons on .png files instead, and if it found a library entry without a .png file, it made a .png file for that entry by automatically converting any accompanying .rsr file.
In December 2006 Poser 7 came in, and it did not automatically convert .rsr library icon files to .png mode, nor did any version of Poser that came after.
As a result (with many apologies for not correcting this problem sooner), many of the older library models that I made and uploaded, still use .rsr files as library icons, and that model would show in modern Poser versions' libraries as the "no preview" "shruggy man" default image, instead of the intended icon, and Poser 7 onwards will not make a .png file from it.
Yesterday I went through all my models' download .zip files, in the copies which are on my computer, converting all contained .rsr icon files into .png files, so if downloaded they should load into modern Poser versions' libraries correctly. I then uploaded all those converted .zip files onto my website ::: please tell me about any faults.
These corrected versions can be accessed via http://larashots.com/appleyard/3d/3dthumb.htm
Re-loading all of my Renderosity freestuff entries which are thus affected, will regrettably take longer, as Renderosity keeps a local copy of all of its freestuff.
(I have no marketplace entries.)
