No.

Not just no, but hell no.

I don't do facebook.

pumeco ( ) posted Thu, 02 July 2015 at 10:31 AM

Sorry Boni, I'm with ssgbryan on this, in fact I wouldn't visit that place even with a gun pointed to my head (seriously).
By encouraging people to use it, you're hurting the good work that organisations are doing to educate people about it.

Do you really want to be responsible for leading innocent people into that stuff?
Click Here if you're not aware of what I'm talking about (only facts are listed on that page, no nonsense).

We understand people do not use Facebook but for this challenge it is for Facebook.  We understand some people do not like social media, but not everyone doesn't and we will be utilizing social media more in the future

Thanks!

As long as you notify the members here well in advance of any changes to the TOS regarding any form of FB intergration, that's fine.
Naturally, I won't be agreeing to any of it - so I guess I'll be leaving soon.

Also note that you do not have my permission to allow FB access to the IP logs of any of my posts.  When I signed up to Renderosity, I agreed to IP recording for the security of Renderosity, not for FB datamining practices.  I did not, never have, and never will give you permission to share any of my data with FB in any way whatsoever.  Any FB intergration you have planned had better not share such data with FB.

Thanks!

KimberlyC ( ) posted Thu, 02 July 2015 at 4:26 PM

Pumeco, thank you for the information.

Facebook is not going to take over the site, we are simply moving to new ideas which involve social media. Please note, social media is not simply facebook.

 STOP adding absolutely useless things.

Fix the forum , fix the freestuff section that is now in a complete mess beyond recognition. The NEWEST freestuff item is from 2004, andthere is NO way to walk through the other items.

To add a freestuff item, one must be suicidal.

FIX what is broken before adding more broken things.

i guess many people like social media, i have none, never will, and would not want any posts i make here, or images i may upload to end up on facebook or its like. Id simply stop using renderosity. I assume though that i am in a minority, and that would have no impact. but still, please, don't integrate renderosity into facebook. keep your facebook page a separate issue that those of us that want to avoid connection with it can continue to do so.

i just ended up script blocking renderosity for the first time

@Tetsu Tora - You may be in for a rude shock then as any picture in the galleries has the Facebook "Like" and "Share" links automatically added.  There is a thread in the Community Center forum started by auntietk back in July 2014, yes you read correctly - 12 months ago, where Rendo promised that the Facebook links would be an option that the uploading artist would be able to select or deselect.  To date this has not been done.  The typical responses to any request for updates are; "its on the list", "its with the programmers", "its out of our hands", "I promise this hasn't been forgotten", etc or the request is just ignored.

With that box UNchecked, the FB Like and Share buttons are still there and still active below the image.

thanks for the info Keppel & others. i read that thread.not an ideal state of affairs. I deleted the few images i had here a long time ago, mostly because I no longer felt they represented my skill level, but also because i saw little point in having them up here anyway. I realize that the nature of the internet is that anything i put anywhere could end up anywhere, but i have long trusted renderosity, and forever distrusted facebook. linking the two will only lead me to digitally distrust renderosity. I know rendo has to move foward, and with the current, somewhat stale nature of 3d and cg, with the wow effect so very long gone into the past, makes it a harder market to get new traffic in, but i'm sure those that like social media are already posting in it. I hope it can be clarified that what is here on the site galleries and forum, will not randomly be available as rendo facebook content.

I do however hope renderosity can find ways to grow and stay healthy. if some use of social media is effective for that, thats great. id just rather it was entirely separate content that people choose to put on the social media page.

Please keep in mind this is to attract more like-minded Poser users to come to Renderosity from social media sites, not to draw folks from here to the sites ... the competitions are a bit of an overlap.  It's all for fun.

Normally I would say 'Good luck' and actually mean it, but not anymore.
I popped back to the forum after someone informed me of the new rules, and the promises to make this a friendlier forum. But after looking through the "Why are you still using V4" thread, I see that nothing has changed, the troublemakers are still allowed to derail good threads, the usual suspects are still thrashing each other and the moderators are still doing nothing. Even after being alerted to it.

Your intentions are good, but unless you guys actually start MODERATING this place, people won't stay.

And yes, I use the ignore function, but when half the thread consists of 'You have this user on ignore', it gets kinda pointless.

We are working on the unfortunate conflicts that arise but there are more complications than appear on the surface. Please bare with us as these changes shift to a more positive environment for our members. This is why a formal "invite" hasn't appeared on the fb feed you may be referring to.

Going out on a limb here, but I just searched the galleries for entries to the contest, and there are 2 so far.

Using Facebook to promote things can work, but if the issues are not addressed in the forums I don't see it working out real well. Inviting people that have never been here before is not going to look real good. You either need to just let it all ride, or grow a pair and address the issues.

Why a Facebook page wasn't set up years ago boggles me. It will take a while for it to even be seen let alone, read, liked, or befriended... You are a needle in a haystack considering ~1.1+ billion people log onto it any given day.

Facebook has some pluses for a business, but it takes time to spread the word. But no where near as long as it is taking to address things in the forum. That choice is obvious where it is coming from and who is making it. If the mods are not doing something it isn't because they were told to do so...............

I have modded many forums, and know the drill............ It is not Boni's or Ambient's fault, not by a long shot..........

I know, and that's what annoyed me the most and finally made me leave the forums. If the Admins are not willing to let their moderators moderate, what then is the point of having moderators?

Unlike the Neanderthals who don't understand what a 'friendly environment' means, I like this idea & I know other artists who use Facebook daily. Many of them post links to their stores, post pics of their art, and many other wonderful things.

If you don't like Facebook, that's fine, nobody is forcing you to do anything. There's no reason at all for the crap I see going on in here right now.

Pumeco,

YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!  I mean who do you think you are-God?  How dare you threaten anyone here, let alone someone trying to do their job?  It's a mod's JOB to delete any posts they find to be against the TOS, which you obviously didn't read. You are what we refer to as a TROLL someone who only wants to cause trouble.  You're rude, arrogant, and frankly you & people like you make these forums a nightmare. You have 1 free item uploaded since 2004, no gallery images at all, and 2794 posts in the forums.  I bet there aren't many that are even remotely polite.

ADMIN MUST START STANDING UP TO THIS TYRANNY AND YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FOR YOUR THREATS.

I'm entitled to my opinion and I will NOT BE QUIET!  I'm sick of bullies like you who think they can do no wrong and I'm willing to bet there was a reason. Posts don't get removed over a "civil post" as you put it. You may think you're all 'that' but read the news... you're not better than anyone else.  You calling it a 'warning' of what nasty things you want to do isn't what anyone here would call a warning but a threat.  You do nothing but derail threads, make rude comments on nice art cause you don't like this or that, you bash people who use software you don't like, and generally bring down the property values.

You need to learn some humility.  Sorry but the truth hurts.

Guys, this post is almost like one that is political. If you do not like facebook, that is fine. But trying to change everyone's mind is pointless. If you don't like facebook, you do not need to post to this thread, simply move on.

Online Now!

This is really strange. I visit a thread about a competition on Facebook, and expect to be reading about precisely that.

I can understand concerns about social media integration and also concerns about Facebook policies. It is good to be aware.

But that is no excuse to be hijacking a post about an well-meaning initiative that is being made to promote artists and Renderosity. A lot of us actually want promotion. Today Facebook is there and is very active. Tomorrow it may be something else. What I do know is that it does us artists no good to hide in a basement just because the world isn't perfect.

Having said that, what is up with the account 'renderosity3d' on Tumblr? I just joined and followed it, assuming that it was an official blog of Renderosity. It blogs and links every new product that comes up in the RO marketplace. So far, so good! But with every blog post, there is a link on the right side panel leading to what seems to be some sort of 'warez' site called topgfx. It says 'download 3D models for free' which immediately made me suspicious, as it would make more sense for Renderosity to provide a link to the main Renderosity page, rather than the freestuff section.

If this is not an official Renderosity account, I would recommend for staff to contact Tumblr about it.

This is another reason why it might be good to have a presence on social media. An official presence. It claims the space that is rightfully  yours and it lets you keep an eye on things. Hiding does not protect.

And sorry for sort of hijacking the thread again with the Tumblr thing, but since staff is already around, perhaps they will look into it.

Boni, I have visited and liked the facebook page. Thanks for the initiative!

OK. I've looked here and on the Facebook page, but no details about a contest. Actually no mention of a contest beyond the first post in this thread. Is there one or isn't there?

3Dpixi ( ) posted Sat, 08 August 2015 at 11:36 AM · edited Sat, 08 August 2015 at 11:51 AM

@ Booksbydavid :

The contest is in pending and there will be details coming soon .. sorry for the inconvenience .. but of course we will keep everybody posted.

@ pumeco :

Everybody is intitled to have an own opionon .. But none the less Renderosity staff is smart enough to handle wisely and according the [copyright] law.

According this contest nothing will be violated at ALL .. No art from Renderosity will be posted there at all without permission of artists and staff. So I would request not to scare other members off telling it is not safe. Everything Renderosity does is 100% safe as well according how facebook is used knowing the ins-and-outs of Facebook as well .. Facebook pages are used as promotional tools only. So try not violate us as well by talk disrespectfull towards Rendersoity staff or members. .. We would greatly appreciate that and you to wait for opinions before knowing details ..

As a question from me to you : do you create art? .. Very curious for your art ..!! :)

I took a peek at your profilepage but nothing in Gallery .. ?? :(

@ Frequency : Thanx for your social interests .. We appreciate!  About the Tumblr account I will take it to the team to check it .. Thanx for pointing out :)

@ In General : please be patience .. we keep you all posted about the contest .. coming soon!

In the mean time : stay nice and feel free to post any questions when having any.

booksbydavid ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2015 at 5:41 PM
