Use Carrara, it has a built in skylight with adjustable sun and moon. Lol. Just kidding. Can't you just use a backdrop with a high res sun and sky image and use the enviro sphere for lighting purposes? What I would do. Also are you sure it's not GC that's messing with your contrast? I think the Poser 10 lighting is less murky, more evenly lit.
